凍えそうな夜が明けて朝食。朝食付きの宿泊料金は、男女ミックスのドミトリーで一泊700ルピー（700円）。
朝食で相席になったインドネシア人のロザーノと、今日はスワヤンブナートとに行ってみようと思ってるよと話すと、じゃあ一緒に行こうということになりました。
The freezing night has gone and now a breakfast at the hostel. The price of the mix dormitory was 700 rupees (700JPY) with breakfast inculuded. I met a Indonesian guy at the breakfast table and we agreed to go to Swayambhunath together.
ところで昨日の冷たいシャワーについて。どうも納得できずに、凍えるベッドの中で”ネパール、お湯、シャワー”とネット検索して分かったことは、ネパールでは、主にソーラーパネルを使ってお湯を沸かしているそうです。なので、お湯の量に限度があり、当然天気に左右されます。聞くと、一番良いのは、昼の４時か５時位にシャワーを浴びる、だそうです。でもその時間帯って、旅行者は大体外出している時間ですけどね。。。苦笑
By the way, about the cold shower yesterday… As I was shivering in bed, I had to google with the words “Nepal, hot shower” and I found the answer. In Nepal, solar panels are used to heat the water so there is a limit to the amount of of the hot shower. And of course it all depends on the weather that day. I was told that the best time to take hot shower would be 4 or 5 pm. What? But that’s usually when travelers are outside exploring the country.
もっと寒い冬はどうしているのか聞くと、昼間に入るか、お湯が出ない場合はささっと冷たいシャワーを浴びるそうです。ソーラーパネルも無い様な田舎のほうに行くと、皆昼間に水シャワーで、もちろん毎日は浴びれないので週に２回とかだそう。薪もあるのですが、それは主に料理に使うので、お風呂にはあまり使わないそう。
I had to ask what do Nepali people do when it’s winter. He said that they he would take shower during the daytime, otherwise he has to take quick shower with cold water. If you go to country side where they don’t even have the solar system, they take cold shower during the daytime while it’s warm. Shower day is only once or twice a week. They do have wood fuel but they use them mainly for cooking, not for hot shower.
話は今日の予定に戻ります。スワヤンブナート寺院までは2,3kmなので、maps.meという地図アプリを頼りに歩いていきます。途中、ATMでルピーを引き出します。道路はほとんど舗装されておらず、砂埃と自動車やバイクの排気ガスで全てが曇っている感じです。皆マスクをしています。よくネパールに来ているというインドネシア人のロザーノ曰く、カトマンズKathmanduならぬダストマンズDustmanduと言われているらしいです。
Back to today’s activity. It’s only 2,3 km to Swayambhunath so we walked using maps.me, which is a map application. I stopped by at a ATM to withdraw some Rupees. Most road was in Kathmandu is not paved so it is very dusty, not only because of the dust but also because of the pollution from cars and the motor bikes. Many people wear mask. Rosano, who often comes to Nepal told me that Kathmandu is also called “Dustmandu”.

お寺見えてきたー！ I can see the temple up there!
お寺というものは大体において高い場所にあるものですよね。この長い階段を上ります。おサルさんがたくさんいました。スワヤンブナートは別名モンキーテンプルと言われています。
As usual, this temple is on the top of hill. So we took many steps. I saw many monkeys on the way. Swayambhunath is also called Monkey Temple.
ママどこ？ Mommy where are you?
迷子になってしまったのか。泣いて母親を探す子ザル。近くにいた大人ザルにくっつくも、かわいそうに、シーッっと追い払われていました。ママ見つかったかな。
He seemed lost. He was crying looking for his mother. He found an adult monkey nearby and tried to stick with her, but she kicked him out. Poor guy… hope he found his mom.

帰りにロザーノおすすめのレストランで、ネパール料理のモモを頂きました。揚げ餃子ですね。蒸したモモが主流ですが、このスパイシーなモモも美味しかったです。
We had fried Momo, one of the Nepali cuisine for lunch. It’s sort of fried Gyoza in Japan. Steam Momo is more popular but this chili momo was spicy and delicious.

会うのは１年半ぶり。Reunion after one and half year.
夜は、以前モロッコでのサハラ砂漠ツアーで友達になった、現在カトマンズに住んでいる中国人の友人と食事に行きました。モロッコで一度だけ出会った人にまた違う国で会えるなんて、まさに旅の醍醐味です。ご縁です。彼はカトマンズではなかなか出会いがない（彼女ができない）と嘆いていましたが。笑。
For dinner, I saw my Chinese friend whom I met in Morocco. He lives in Kathmandu. Never had thought that I would ever see him again but I think that this is what I love about traveling. Meeting people. Making friends. But he was complaining that he never meet any woman in Kathmandu. Lol.
そして、忘れていません！靴下！トレッキング用の厚手のやつ買いました。これで今夜は眠れる。嬉しい。。
And I didn’t forget! Yes, socks! Very important. I bought a pair of trekking socks, nice an warm. Happy. I can sleep now.
Yay! I can sleep now. これで眠れる。でも今日のシャワーが怖い。お湯が出るかどうか蛇口をひねってみないと分からないなんて。。
でもでも！見事お湯出ました～！こんなにもお湯がありがたいなんて。

I turned on the faucet. Waited for a few minutes. Yay! Hot! I have never appreciated the hot shower so much before.
